When the Birch Selsdon Hotel in Croydon went into liquidation, fifteen extraordinary pieces of furniture came to market. We moved fast.
These bespoke storage wardrobes were designed by London studio A-nrd and made exclusively for Birch Selsdon — a hotel that commissioned genuinely special interiors. Now they're available through Evengrain, and we think they're some of the most considered pieces of furniture we've ever had in stock.
Designed for a Hotel. Built Like Sculpture.
A-nrd is a London-based architecture and interior design studio known for what they call "digital craftsmanship" — a blend of traditional joinery and advanced digital carving techniques that produces work with real tactile presence. These wardrobes were commissioned specifically for Birch Selsdon, and it shows: every detail has been resolved with the kind of care you rarely see in production furniture.
The structure is a blackened raw-steel frame — minimal, architectural, quietly industrial. Into that frame sits a three-drawer chest and staggered open shelving, all finished in a distinctive green-stained veneer with solid oak detailing. The combination is soft-brutalist in the best sense: hard materials made warm by considered proportion and natural timber.
The Details That Make It
- Oversized mushroom knobs in solid oak — tactile, characterful, and satisfying to use every day.
- A draped recycled linen curtain by The Yarn Collective, which brings softness and movement to the steel frame.
- A circular marquetry panel by London-based artist Chelsea Vivash, crafted from veneer offcuts into a landscape-inspired geometric focal point — and also the hook rail, so function and artistry meet in one gesture.
The cabinetry uses sustainably sourced timber alongside through-coloured Valchromat. These pieces have been featured in Wallpaper, Yellowtrace, and Condé Nast.
Perfect for Boutique Hotels and Design-Led Homes
Hotel furniture at this level rarely comes to market — and when a hotel goes into liquidation, the window to acquire pieces like this is short. We have fifteen available, and they're ideal for boutique hotels looking for a ready-made design statement, or for homes that want something genuinely one-of-a-kind with a story behind it.
At 137cm wide, 56cm deep, and 184cm tall, they work as a bedroom wardrobe, a hallway storage piece, or a room divider with presence. Fifteen available. They won't last.
