A beautiful set of four mid-century Model 811 'Prague' dining chairs, featuring a timeless pairing of sculptural bentwood and woven rattan cane. Originally created in the 1920s by iconic modernist designers Josef Hoffmann and Josef Frank, this classic silhouette continued to be produced across highly regarded European factories throughout the 20th century.

This specific set was manufactured in Poland by the renowned FMG (Fabryka Mebli Giętych) factory during the 1960s–70s, distributed under the premium licensed 'Dinette' collection. Retaining their original paper labels and 'Made in Poland' stamps, these chairs offer an exceptional blend of historic design integrity and authentic mid-century pedigree.

Design & Materials

The chairs are masterfully constructed from solid beechwood, utilizing classic steam-bending techniques to achieve their minimalist, architectural curves. The honey-toned wood frame beautifully frames the classic Viennese woven cane on both the seats and backrests.

The transparency of the woven rattan allows light to pass through gracefully, giving the set a light visual footprint that fits seamlessly into both contemporary and period dining spaces.

Condition & Restoration

This set is in excellent vintage condition, exhibiting a warm, rich patina accumulated over decades of careful use. Crucially, the original rattan cane on all four chairs remains completely intact, taut, and entirely free from sagging, tears, or brittle breaks—a rarity for authentic mid-century pieces of this nature.

Celebrating Unsung Design

Honouring mid-century pieces from skilled, often unnamed makers.

We believe great design isn’t limited to big names. Many of the most distinctive mid-century pieces were crafted by skilled makers whose stories are lost to time. We celebrate these unsung designs by restoring and presenting them with the same care as any iconic brand.

We bought a stunning wall unit from Evengrain for Ed’s birthday, and it’s truly transformed our living space. Every morning, we wake up and see it from bed—it brings us joy daily, and we absolutely love it."

“The McIntosh dining table from Evengrain now sits at the heart of my Margate design studio. It’s where we spread out projects, meet clients and spend most of our day.”

“We bought a Jentique bureau from Evengrain to use as a maître d’ station in our Folkestone restaurant, and it works perfectly. It’s practical, beautifully made and adds a calm, mid-century character to the entrance that guests always comment on.”
